John Cabot Academy is a school in Kingswood.  We learn French from the start of Year 7 to Year 9, and then some students continue to GCSE and A-Level.  In the school, we also teach Spanish and German.

 

At John Cabot, during Term 1 of Year 7, we do "Language Explorers".  We learn about different languages, including French, Spanish and German, but also Latin, Italian and more about the English language.

 

Each term we focus on new topics.

 

In Year 7, Term 3 was about Me and My Family.  Term 4 was about Food and Culture and Term 5 was about Sports and Activities. In Term 6, we will be learning about Music and Culture around the world.

In Year 8, Term 1 was about life in the French- and Spanish-speaking world.  In Term 2 we learned about Home and our Region.  Term 3 was about the World of Work, whilst Term 4 was about TV and Free Time.  In Term 5 we learned about Technologies, and the topic of Term 6 will be Literature in the French- and Spanish language

In Year 9, we started the year in Term 1 with reviewing the topics of Me, My Family and My Friends.  In Term 2 we focused on Free Time with sports and hobbies, and in Term 3 we re-used some of the previous topics to focus on the Past Tense.  Term 4 was about Vacations and Holidays.  Term 5 was a bit different and we did a term project on Little Red Riding Hood in French, Spanish or German.  At the end of the term students were able to film themselves (or clerverly designed puppets and figurines!) acting out their own version of the classic story.
